How it works

Every word you enter is given a temperature. If it is among the closest words, a rank appears as well: the lower it is, the warmer you are.

Closeness is not a matter of spelling but of meaning. It is not drawn from a dictionary but from a body of Arabic texts, from which a distance between every pair of words has been computed. Two close words are therefore not necessarily synonyms: an adjective and its opposite may well be neighbours, since they describe the same things.

Arabic is usually written without short vowels, and a word changes shape depending on whether it carries the article, a pronoun or a preposition. These variants are reduced to a single form: you are looking for a noun or an adjective, never a verb. The vowels you type are ignored, and so are the ones you leave out.

Unlike other games of this kind, the daily word list is not drawn at random from a dictionary: it was read through by hand, word by word. A word whose meaning depends too heavily on context makes the day unplayable — those were removed.

It will take you more than six guesses, probably dozens. There is no limit, and nothing is lost if you fail.

The game itself is entirely in Arabic. This page is not; it is here to tell you what you will find.
